Elizabeth + Jonny • Hotel DuPont Wedding
Where to being with this Hotel DuPont wedding? I met Elizabeth and Jonny by chance, and I’m so glad we connected! Jonny, a North Carolina native, and Elizabeth, from West Chester, met five years ago while Elizabeth attended Elon University. They traveled all the way from North Carolina for their Wilmington wedding in the Hotel DuPont’s Gold Ballroom. They both were getting ready in the Hotel DuPont before heading across the street for the ceremony. Jonny got ready in the honeymoon suite upstairs, while Elizabeth and her bridesmaids got ready downstairs in the New Castle room of the Hotel. Elizabeth wore a one-of-a-kind off the shoulder fit and flare dress with beautiful beading work and an incredible vail. And by one of a kind, I really mean it: the dress was designed by the owner of Forever Formals in Kennet Square! Jonny wore a suit custom tailored by Jos. A Banks, and some spectacular socks for his groomsmen made an appearance. He also had custom cuff links he wore with his tuxedo that were spectacular! Between the hotel and church, we stopped to a few minutes to take photos in Rodney Square. The ceremony at First & Central Presbyterian was beautiful: an all white church inside with nearly floor to ceiling windows, sunlight illuminated the room with a warm glow. Steven Heitzer, of Philadelphia Brass and Fairmount Strings, accompanied them on trumpet during the ceremony. (As some of you may or may not know, I play trumpet and piano, and couldn’t believe walking in the church to see Steve! What a wonderful surprise!) After their traditional and sweet ceremony was sealed with a first kiss, Elizabeth and Jonny walked out to a bubble exit on the steps of the church, and we went next door to take family photos and portraits. We took plenty of photos as the sun streamed in over the tops of the buildings among the tress and colonial architecture next door, and then headed back to the Hotel DuPont for their wedding reception, making a quick stop at the corner stone of the building and for the Rodney Square statue before going inside.
The Gold Ballroom at the Hotel DuPont is breathtaking. It’s the epitome of elegance, with stunning woodwork, beautiful frescos, incredible plaster sculpture, and… well take a look. See for yourself. The night was fueled by the Love Jones Band while the famously terrific food was served, complete with flaming bananas foster and the most adorable desserts! The Gold Ballroom, rich in history and ornately furnished, was a perfect fit for this elegant, timeless couple. The ended their Hotel DuPont wedding with a sparkler exit, and packed their bags for Greece in the morning!
Elizabeth and Jonny’s Hotel Dupont wedding was nothing short of spectacular. They were such a joy to work with, and made my job easy! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them – I know it’s going to be terrific!
